  • Once you start going to a Chiropractor, do you have to continue for the rest of your life?"
Your health is your choice. There is never any pressure to go for the rest of your life. Once your condition stabilizes through regular chiropractic adjustments, periodic maintenance is highly recommended, but completely up to you. Getting your spine checked on a regular basis keeps it healthy and moving properly, in the same way that getting your teeth checked twice a year keeps your gums and teeth healthy. Spinal hygiene, just like dental hygiene, is an individual choice.
  • Does it hurt?
In some cases just to touch the area of complaint hurts. That is why we are pleased to provide gentle and specific chiropractic care. We even adjust babies in our office which gives you an idea of how gentle it is. We are always considerate of the pain that a patient may be in and take steps that are comfortable for the patient.
  • How long does my first visit take?
The visit will take between 30 to 40 minutes. This includes any x-rays that may be necessary as well as a consultation and exam. To make it easier a patient may download the new patient forms found under the Patient forms tab in the left margin.
  • Do you have to take X-rays?
X-rays provide us with a blueprint of your spine. It tells us exactly where the bone has moved, what it's going to take to correct it, and approximately how long it will take to correct. There are two things that can be negatively affected if we skip x-rays: one is your health and the other is the reputation of our doctor. We don't believe in taking those risks - we would rather be absolutely sure of what we are dealing with, and an x-ray will aid us in that.
  • Can you use X-rays taken by another Chiropractor?
If those x-rays were taken less than two years ago and you have not been involved in an accident or sustained a major trauma, we can use those x-rays. All you have to do is sign a release that will be sent to the chiropractor or medical doctor who took the x-rays. As soon as we receive them, we can get started.
  • How often do I need to see a Chiropractor?
This varies for every patient. When you first start going to a chiropractor, he/she will want to see you several times in the first couple of weeks. The reason is that we are trying to build memory in the muscles surrounding your spine. This is similar to when you start working out. Muscles have memory and the more often you go in the beginning the more noticeable and long lasting the benefits will be. As time passes, the interval between your adjustments increases until you stabilize or go on maintenance care- which is defined by you and your needs, based on our recommendations.
  • I heard that Chiropractic can cure allergies. Is that True?
Chiropractic doesn't cure anything. It utilizes the body's natural ability to fight disease by correcting interference to the nervous system coming from improperly moving bones in your back.
  • Do we have patients with allergies?
Most definitely! What our patients have noticed is that once they have been under chiropractic care for a few months they experience a marked improvement in their allergy symptoms. 90% of these patients are taking some sort of allergy medication. The nice thing about getting adjusted on a regular basis is that it helps your medication work better, because now your body is working better. Eventually some patients find little to no need for their medication.
  • Why do children need to get adjusted if they don't have back pain?
Chiropractic is about more than just back pain. Children respond quickly and very well to adjustments. By correcting any misalignments early, their spines have the opportunity to grow straight, move properly, and prevent the many problems of back, neck and low back pain that so many adults suffer from. Their misalignments are so recent in most cases that it takes just a few adjustments to see results. With an adult, some misalignments have been there for many years and it takes a lot longer to correct them.
  • Can chiropractic care help ear infections?
Although chiropractic does not cure ear infections, children who get adjusted regularly during those times see a higher resolution rate and suffer less from them. Adjusting a child is a very gentle and subtle, yet powerful, process. The drainage system of the ear is surrounded by delicate and movable bones. Restoring proper motion to those areas allows for the natural drainage that was intended. Sometimes just the birth process can disrupt that delicate balance. We have had patients who were scheduled for ear tubes surgery whose parents tried chiropractic as a last resort — in many cases they found that surgery would be unnecessary.
  • What are those "pops"? I don't like to hear "pops" in my back."
The noise is actually the sound of gas escaping from within the joint. The noise is similar to the one you hear when you "crack" your knuckles. After you crack your knuckles it takes time for the gas to build back up, that's why you can't do it again for a while. The difference in your spine is that we are remobilizing a joint and releasing gas that became trapped when the joint became immobilized. Fortunately, there are hundreds of different techniques in chiropractic and if the noise is scary for the patient, we can use a technique where they don't hear anything at all.
